How is fuel running cost calculated?
Running cost is calculated as (fuel or energy price per unit ÷ vehicle efficiency) × distance. For petrol, diesel, and hybrid this uses ₹ per litre and km/l. For CNG it uses ₹ per kg and km/kg. For EVs it uses ₹ per kWh and km/kWh.
Why does the comparison table show different fuel types for different cars?
Not every car is sold in every fuel type — a hatchback might only come in Petrol and CNG, while an SUV might offer Petrol, Diesel, and Hybrid. The table only shows the fuel variants that model is actually sold in.
Do these figures include the extra cost of buying an EV or hybrid?
No. This calculator compares only running (fuel/energy) cost per kilometre. It does not include the higher upfront price of EVs or hybrids, maintenance, insurance, or resale value — those matter too when deciding which car to buy.
Are the fuel prices used here accurate for my city?
The calculator uses India national-average fuel and electricity prices. Actual petrol, diesel, CNG, and especially electricity prices vary by state and city, so treat the results as a close estimate rather than an exact figure for your location.
